I just finished watching the video. It appears that she and her sister, too, rebelled against being JWs as soon as they were old enough and just started doing their own thing. If I understood correctly, Samantha (aka Sam) has a sister who married a brother of the man Sam married, but this man didn't become radicalized like Sam's husband did. Anyway, even though Sam finally pled guilty to a terrorism-related charge, her subsequent statements reveal she's still trying to justify herself and minimize her own responsibility for what happened. The children, of course, are the true victims in this sorry tale. Fortunately, they are being taken care of and will have a fighting chance at a normal life.

No American citizen who left the country to support ISIS in any capacity whatsoever, even just as a spouse of an ISIS member, should EVER be allowed to return. Furthermore, they should be considered to have forfeited their American citizenship the moment they left. No exceptions for age or gender. There is no way we could ever trust them.

The MSM was so anti-Trump, they wouldn't have publicized anything that could possibly work in his favor. Now that they think the election is over, they may want to appear to be doing their jobs instead of simply shilling for the Democratic Party and their cohorts BLM, antifa, Marxists, communists, etc., like they've been doing for the last four years.
A more cynical person may see this a means of undermining Biden so that his affirmative action token Kamala Harris can take over. Imagine that! A "sorta black" female President. How virtuous we are! How open-minded we are! Yaayy us!

Wasanelder Once, he probably can't know for sure what's in the file cabinet, but he can certainly tell whether it is empty or not. Since he knows what was in there before, it's reasonable to think that's what's in there now. He can't be absolutely sure, of course, but it's a pretty good bet. If I were him, I'd want to look inside out of curiosity if nothing else.

If the old JW stuff was left inside the building after it was sold, and there was no provision in the sale documents for its timely removal, it would probably be considered legally abandoned and hence the property of the new owners. Maybe your friend could offer to haul off the abandoned JW stuff for free, or even buy it from them if necessary.
Then he could legally break into the file cabinet. Or he could have a duplicate key made if there is a code number on the lock. Once he has access to the contents, he could redact the documents as necessary and then do with them as he wishes. Any old publications could probably be sold on eBay for a tidy little profit. Win-win!

Publisher's Record Cards
by Faded4good inokay, i haven't been to a meeting in over 17 years and i don't live anywhere near the place i grew up.
i have had minimal contact with my jw family, essentially just occasional phone conversations.
i think they could easily guess that i'm inactive but they pretend not to know and they've never shunned me.

Contrary to what some seem to think, simply not being disfellowshipped or disassociated is no guarantee you won't be shunned by family and former friends.
I am neither DF nor DA, have not been a "practicer of sin" for several years, nor doing anything else that a normal person would object to. It's true that all my past sins have not been "handled" by the congregation, but that was because they themselves decided not to pursue them because I had moved far away to a place where I was not known to have ever been a JW and did not present myself as one. A cynical person might think another reason may be that I know where quite a few "skeletons" are buried and they didn't want to start something that might end badly for the congregation and its reputation.
Even though there is no real reason to do so now, some relatives have told me they must severely limit association because even a simple conversation with me "undermines [their] faith." They consider me "too smart for [my] own good." I ask questions using simple logic that they simply cannot answer and do not wish to think about. I have the dreaded "bad attitude."

In the end, every decision they make is about protecting their money and maintaining their power over adherents. Money and control. The eternal motivators.

I personally know of a case where the Borg disfellowshipped someone who had been inactive for over 25 years. He had been an elder before he "left the truth," and somewhere along the line he had divorced his wife and then years later had begun living with a different woman. There was no public controversy and he was not disfellowshipped at the time, probably because he had been inactive for so long. But a new Circuit Overseer came to town and decided to tie up loose ends. The elders confronted him and told him he would have to kick his paramour out of their home and stop seeing her altogether or else he would be disfellowshipped. He told them to pound sand, so they disfellowshipped him. Why, after all these years? The new Circuit Overseer said he was once well-known as a JW and some of his neighbors might remember this and know he was now "living in sin," so they had to avoid bringing reproach upon
Jehovah's namethe congregation.I myself have not attended a meeting or presented myself as a JW for over 20 years. During that time, I got a divorce and moved far away. I also remarried, but was never officially disassociated or disfellowshipped. I could have been, but I guess the elders from my last congregation decided to use the "hold the matter in abeyance" provision of the Flocking the Sheep book because they never contacted me about it even though it was well known locally. Also, my now ex-wife didn't want me to be disfellowshipped because she still clung desperately to the hope that I might "come back" to the Truth™ and, before the divorce, possibly her.
Fast forward to today. I have been happily legally and "scripturally" married to the love of my life for several years. Most of my JW family still shuns me anyway, because my sins of the past were never "handled" by the congregation and I have been completely inactive for many years. Some refuse to talk to me at all because even a conversation with someone like me "undermines [their] faith." Some consider me too smart for my own good because I ask logical questions they find impossible to answer. Some grind their teeth that I have a "source" that provides me copies of "secret" WT documents, often before their elder friends and relatives get their own. I don't rub any of that in their faces, but they are aware that I often know too much too soon about most JW related matters.
Anyway, the point of all this is to say that could probably still reach out and disfellowship me at any time, if they chose to do so. This despite that fact that I live hundreds of miles away, no one around here even knows I ever was a JW, I have never gone to a KH in this area, and I am no longer "living in sin" and haven't done so for several years. I don't worry about it, and I really don't give a shirt.

My father was the Congregation Servant, the equivalent of the Coordinator of the Body of Elders today), from the mid-50's. He worked in a paper mill and a member of the union there from the late 40's till her retired in the mid-80's. I'm not aware of any firm rule against being a member of a union, but I'm pretty sure picketing or anything else that could be construed as political activity would be frowned upon.
I myself was a member of one union for 10 years and then a different one for almost 30 years. Over those years, I have received many, many benefits and protections that I would not have had otherwise. In fact, certain of my union benefits continue even though I am retired.
Not that it makes any difference, but I have not been a JW for well over 20 years. Whether or not JWs approved of unions mattered not a whit to me.
